Adam Kadmon — permalink

אָדָם קַדְמוֹן

The primordial configuration of Divine light: not a man, but an order, in which everything that will ever be revealed is held in all-inclusive potential. “Adam” from adameh le’Elyon, likeness to the Above; “Kadmon” meaning primacy in rank, not in time. In this site’s framework, the configuration oriented to structure.

Partzuf — permalink

פַּרְצוּף also pl. partzufim

A complete configuration — ten sefirot within ten, head, body and limbs — acting together as one order. The claim that Chavah Kadmonah is a partzuf and not merely a point of light is what makes her an architecture rather than an attribute.

Igulim & Yosher — permalink

עִגּוּלִים וְיֹשֶׁר

Circles and upright form. Igulim are concentric, equal, without up or down — encompassing light. Yosher is structured alignment: head, body, legs, right and left. Both are described within Adam Kadmon.

Panim & Achorayim — permalink

פָּנִים וַאֲחוֹרַיִם

Face and back. Panim is the inner intention, the face turned toward encounter; achorayim is the outward function that can be given without inward revelation. The maamar reads Adam Kadmon largely as the arrangement of achorayim that permits worlds, and Chavah Kadmonah as the panim of Ein Sof toward those same worlds.

Mashpia & Mekabel — permalink

מַשְׁפִּיעַ וּמְקַבֵּל

Giver and receiver. Both exist within every sefirah; the difference between the two configurations is which of the two prevails. Chassidus holds that the receiver has a hidden advantage: heavens shine, but only earth brings forth what was not there before.

אוֹר יָשָׁר וְאוֹר חוֹזֵר
